Ronald L. Kasper, age 67 of Topeka, KS died Monday, May 7, 2007 unexpectedly at his home.
He was born on June 29, 1939 in Clarks, NE to Peter H. and Elizabeth Rose (Regier) Kasper. Ron was baptized at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Henderson, NE on September 10, 1950. He graduated from Henderson High School. He earned a mechanic's degree from SE Community College (Milford Tech) then later a Bachelor of Arts in Business at Washburn University in Topeka, KS.
Ron worked full time as a car mechanic as well as an accounting clerk at Santa Fe Railroad while earning his Bachelor's degree. He worked his way up the corporate ladder into high management of budgets at Santa Fe before changing careers to accounting at the Kansas Department of Transportation in 1991. Ron also expanded his horizons by becoming a senior tax advisor and tax instructor for H&R Block.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren as well as continuing mechanic work, household repair and remodeling projects, and was a member of the Cornerstone Community Church.
Ron is survived by his wife Julie A. (Friesen) Kasper, married August 28, 1959, and his two sons Michael of Olathe, KS and Byron of Overland Park, KS. He also has four granddaughters, Amanda, Emily, Molly and Rachel from his son Michael. Also surviving are his sister Marlyce and her husband Arthur Friesen of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. He is also survived by his brother- and sisters-in-law, Al and Jennie Kliewer and Wally and Shirley Friesen of Henderson, NE as well as a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2007 at Cornerstone Community Church, 7620 SW 21st, Topeka, Kansas. Mr. Kasper will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at the Bethesda Cemetery in Henderson, Nebraska.
