Ronald W. Dean, Sr.

October 21, 1951 — March 21, 2014

Ronald W. Dean, loving son, father and grandfather, was met in heaven by his father George W. Dean and his mother Angela Dean Stednitz on March 21, 2014.

Ron was born on October 21, 1951 in Hiawatha KS. He attended grade school in Hiawatha, but graduated high school at Highland Park in Topeka in 1969. He married Patricia A. Vawter, mother of his children, on October 27,1971. They were divorced.

He was a Tech Seargent for the United States Air Force as well as a part time police officer for the city of Carbondale. He later became Chief of Police for the city of Overbrook. After serving for several years as Chief of Police for Overbrook, he became the Chief of Police for the Kickapoo Nation for 3 years. He finished out his law enforcement career as a Homeland security Officer for the National Guard Armory in Topeka.

He is survived by his children, Jennifer DeShazer, her husband Duane and their children Tyler, Devin and Zachary of Scranton; Ronald W. Dean, Jr., his wife Stacy and their children Ethan and Evan of Overbrook; Kimberly Leinweber, her husband David and her children Madison and Morgan Mellies, and his children, Jeff and Emily Leinweber of Topeka; two brothers, George and Edith Dean of Topeka and Jerry and Mickie Dean of Halston; three sisters, Georgia and Jim Bachman of Lawrence, Vickie and Glen Mallonee of Lecompton, and Shirley Beckner of Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews.

Ron lived in Carbondale with his companion, Liz Frevert and 4 legged child, Falka. He loved to hunt and fish, especially with his son and grandsons. He spent countless hours tending to his large vegetable garden and smoking meats, which he loved sharing with his friends and family. Ron was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Crossroads Community Church, 512 S. Mason, Scranton, KS, on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
