Ronald Wade "Ron" Hewitt, 82, of Carbondale, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015.
He was born February 3, 1933 in Topeka, the son of Clyde Edgar and Frances Mae (Falley) Hewitt. He was a 1951 graduate of Topeka High School.
Ron was an electrician and retired from IBEW Local 226 in Topeka, KS.
Ronald is preceded by Georgia Barraclough; his second wife Bonnie Hutchinson and two children, Jason and Tina; his first wife Marjorie Ann Shrimplin and their four children survive, Michael W. (Jill) Hewitt, Topeka, Frances M. Hewitt, Washington, DC, Rhonda A. (Vern Barnhart) Hewitt, Carbondale and Yolanda M. (Allen) Bond, Scranton. A son, Raymond W. Hewitt passed June 9, 2014. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Michelle "Grace" Smith, Zachary L. Hardin, Jackson R. W. Hardin, Adria N. Hardin and Jordan R. Massey; a brother, John Hewitt, Fairbanks, AK; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Hewitt.
Ron was a member of the NHRA Drag Racing and won numerous awards. He raced at Heartland Park in Topeka and Midwest Raceway, Manhattan, KS. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, metal detecting, flying small engine planes, and was a successful small farmer in Osage County, KS. He traveled extensively for his employment throughout the United States including assignments at Three Mile Island and Prudhoe Bay.
Ron's wishes of cremation have been fulfilled and a memorial will be placed in the family plot at Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka, KS.
A memorial ceremony will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2015 at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th, Topeka. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until the service hour.
