Ruth "Maxine" (Fruits) Day, 92, Topeka, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2008 at Aldersgate Village after fighting Alzheimer's.
Maxine was born February 21, 1916 in Windom, the daughter of Taylor and Bertha (Smith) Nowlan.
She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 19 years.
She was employed at Adams Business Forms for 32 years, retiring in 1978.
She married Harry Fruits in 1931. He died in 1953. She married Douglas Day in 1954. He died in 1982. Survivors include son, James (Carol) Fruits, Topeka; daughters, Sharon (Alan) Layne, Topeka, Mary Ellen Anastasia, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Harry Lawrence Fruits; brothers, Burdette Nowlan, Kenneth Nowlan, Pat Nowlan, and Lawrence Nowlan; and a sister, Edna Nowlan.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Maxine will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Monday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
