Ruth J. Richards, 89, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014. She was born November 12, 1924 in Richland, the daughter of Charles and Rachel Faye Michael Schutz.
Ruth graduated from Highland Park High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, growing flowers, gardening and cooking. She was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church and the Tecumseh Social Service Club.
Ruth married Carl Richards on April 27, 1944 in Richland. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred Lewis, Mabel Riley and Earl Schutz. Survivors include her children, Carl Allen (Patty) Richards, James (Pam) Richards, six grandchildren, Mike, Kim, Christy, Keith, Kevin, Karalie and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Bethel Cemetery. Ruth will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, 334 SE Tecumseh Rd., Tecumseh, KS 66542.
