Ruth LaDean (Way) Ransdell, 89, Topeka, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006 at her home.
She was born Feb. 2, 1917 in Topeka, the daughter of Dean Frank and Lena M. Southard Way. She attended Clay Grade School, Roosevelt Junior High, and graduated from Topeka High School. She graduated from Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing in 1940.
Mrs. Ransdell worked as a supervisor at Jane C. Stormont Hospital, and also did private duty nursing, public health nursing, and worked as a surgical nurse for Dr. Harry J. Davis for 12 years. She also was a school nurse in USD 501 for 10 years.
She was a 50 year member of Beulah Chapter #34, O.E.S., and a member of Stormont-Vail Alumni Association.
She married Charles Lloyd Ransdell on July 6, 1940 in Topeka. He died Feb. 11, 1980. She was also preceded in death by two sisters.
Survivors include her best friend and neighbor, Corliss Wheatley; a cousin, Anita Beasley; and a niece.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
Mrs. Ransdell will lie in state after noon Monday at the funeral home.
