Sally Martell

SALLY MARTELL was born in Omaha NE on April 4, 1936. Her family moved to Abilene Kansas. Following school in Salina, Sally graduated from KU with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She taught in Topeka, kindergarten, grades one and two; she loved the students, and they loved her.

Following her first marriage she stopped teaching to raise and love two sons and a daughter. She divorced and returned to teaching.

Sally married John Martell, spending thirty years loving John and six stepdaughters, living in the Sarasota, FL area and Topeka.

She was very active in her Sarasota church, Junior League Sustainers and Kappa Kappa Gamma.
She enjoyed music especially live concerts, sailing, bridge, dining with friends. Her special happiness was taking granddaughters shopping.

Sally's parents Andy and Kyle Anderson and her brother Jerry Anderson preceded her in death.

SALLY is survived by her husband, John Martell; her children Robert (Chris) Coover; Tom Coover; Kristen Noll; stepdaughters, Beth Martell; Julie (Bill) Connor; Laurie (Emery) Pino; Patty (Tony Monteleone) Schweer; Mary Martell; Kathleen (Nat Hagerman) Martell, grandchildren Jack and Sam Coover, Gracie and Joshua Coover, Daisy Noll, Taylor and Sarah Schweer, Joey Connor, Audrey and Matthew Pino, John and Charlie Flott, and great grandchild Hazel Noll and brother, Dana Anderson.

A celebration of Sally's life will be held Friday, December 9th at 11am in the Carole Chapel on the Washburn University Campus. A luncheon will immediately follow in the Kansas Room in the Washburn student union.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
