Samuel A. King, 73, of Topeka, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born September 25, 1940 in McKenney, VA, the son of Sidney and Alma Pryor King.
Samuel was an Air Force veteran during the Cuban Crises. He retired from Del Monte Foods in January, 2005. He was a member of the Roadrunners Camping Club. He also liked to bowl and fish.
Samuel married Mabel Bell on March 20, 1967 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Samuel A. (Tina) King II of Topeka, Robin (Chris) Bornemann of Fort Polk, LA, Robert (Stacy Allen) Murphy of Kansas City, MO, four grandchildren, Angel, Aida, Tyrone and Shade, three great-grandchildren, Ne'Lonne, James and Maurice, his niece, Beverly Tucker of McKenney, VA, and his cousins, James Reed, John Reed, Robert Griffin, Charley Griffin and Mae Johnson all of Virginia. Samuel was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Hall in January, 1999.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014 in Mount Hope Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Samuel will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. Friday until service time at Mount Hope Chapel. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is assisting the family.
