Samuel L. Torgeson, 64, Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Stormont-Vail Health Center.
Sam was born April 27, 1951 in Topeka, the son of Floyd and Dorothy (Baker) Torgeson, Jr. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1969 and attended Washburn University.
Sam was a Master Electrician. He was a second generation owner of Torgeson Electric, Inc. He acquired his Master Gardener License while living in Sedona. He enjoyed landscaping, creating beautiful plants, cactus and flower arrangements. In addition, he was a Master Bladesmith, creating the artistic Damascus Steel Knife Blade. He loved listening to a variety of music, fishing and target shooting. He had a quiet respect and a generous heart for family, employees and friends. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and golfing. He was a long time member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Sam married Marsha Reust on November 26, 1971 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include son, Matt Torgeson and fiancé, Joy Bishop, Topeka; daughter, Jennifer Adkins and husband, James, Carbondale; grandchildren, Katie Adkins, Cason and Ian Cropp; sisters, Lynn McNeil and husband, Terry, Abilene, TX, Sharon Moore and husband Jerrie, Albuquerque, NM; In-laws Jan Nichols, Rick and Gail Reust, Ron Reust; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Paulette Stratton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
