Samuel Lowell Long, 88, of Olathe, formerly of Topeka and Tulsa, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016.
He was born February 3, 1928 in Rawlins, WY, the son of Samuel and Nile Long.
He received his bachelor's degree from Emporia State University and later worked toward his master's degree in Public Administration at the University of Kansas.
After leaving KU he became the City Manager for Columbia, TN until 1959. He then became the Personnel Director for the City of Tulsa, OK from 1959 to 1971. He moved to Kansas in 1971 and was the Personnel Director for the State of Kansas. He retired as Case Management Specialist for the Kansas Supreme Court in 1995.
Lowell married Lois Rose Kerr in 1952. She preceded him in death in 2010.
Survivors include a daughter, Jenice Greb (David) of Overland Park, KS; two sons, Keith Long of Latham, KS and Craig Long (Marty) of Bend, OR and two granddaughters, Hannah and Laura Greb of Overland Park, KS.
Lowell will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW. Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS 66610. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2016 at the funeral home where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW. 6th Ave., Topeka, KS 66606.
