Sarah M. Merrill, 96, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2020 at a Topeka care center. She was born March 9, 1924 in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph F. and Emily (Hamlin) Merrill.
Sarah graduated from Kansas State University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Art. She was employed as an Illustrator for the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center for many years.
Sarah had many interests such as photography, bird watching, hiking, canoeing and traveling in her beloved Vanagon. She backpacked in Europe, drove her Vanagon to Alaska and spent many hours camping and canoeing the rivers in and around Kansas with her friend, Joanna. She was always up for an adventure.
Survivors include her nieces, Janet Alexander, Pam Jaeger, Maureen Hixson, one nephew, Mike Merrill, many grand-nieces and grand-nephews and her longtime friend, Joanne Lacoursiere.
Sarah was preceded in death by her sister, Laura Smith, brother, George Merrill and her niece, Nancy Lee.
As per Sarah's wishes, cremation has taken place and no memorial services are presently planned. Private inurnment will take place in Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan, Kansas at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the CAT Association of Topeka, 1719 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, Kansas, 66604.
