Sherman Jackson "SJ" Epperson, 80, of Topeka, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022.
He was born February 5, 1942, in Mena, Arkansas, the son of Austin and Eva Lilly (Essman) Epperson. He graduated from Highland Park High School. He served in the army during Vietnam.
Sherman was employed by Stevenson's Company for 30 years and then eight years with Standard Sheet Metal as a union sheet metal worker, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Epperson was a member of the Local 2 Sheet Metal Workers Retirees Association and attended Topeka Bible Church.
Sherman married JoAnn Merryman on September 1, 1962 at the North Topeka Baptist Church. She survives, along with his children Tracy Seitz (Warren) of Gravois Mills, MO, Curt Epperson (Denise) of Silver Lake, and Christy Griggs of Topeka; grandchildren Breanna Seitz, Danielle Atzeni (Zach), Tegan Seitz, Shaley Long (Brad), and Shelbie Epperson; great-grandchildren Jayden Seitz, Keegan Long, Braxton Long, and Wyatt Jackson (due in two weeks); siblings Kenneth Epperson (Marilyn), sister Lois Melroy (the late Gene Melroy), Elmer Epperson (Charlotte), and Dave Epperson. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Sherman enjoyed playing golf, camping, and entertaining his grandchildren. He coached baseball, softball and was an umpire at Ken Berry for several years. He was an avid KU fan.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, April 15th at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. Cremation will follow the ceremony. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
