Sherry Maureen Arnfield, 54, of Topeka, died September 18, 2013 at her home. She was born December 28, 1958 to Wesley William and Carleen Bernice (Sully) Weppler at Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Sherry was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband, Mark; sons, Daniel and Ben; mother, Carleen; and her sisters, Bernice, Donna-Mae, Elesia, Darleen, and Beth.
Sherry first started attending the Worldwide Church of God in 1975 with her parents and was baptized in 1981. She married Mark Robert Arnfield on November 30, 1986 at Wetaskiwin, Alberta. The family began attending the Philadelphia Church of God in 1992. Sherry faithfully served PCG congregations in Virginia, Utah and Missouri over the years. She especially enjoyed having overnight guests during the years in Utah, where church members would stop during long road trips.
Sherry enjoyed reading, traveling, family hikes, word puzzles and cross-stitch. Her life revolved around her faith, her devotion to her family, serving at church, and being a loyal and attentive friend. She took on the considerable challenge of successfully home-schooling her two sons from Grade 1 through high school during a time when little outside support was available. She loved to write letters and cards to her many friends in an age that seems to have lost the art of letter writing. Sherry was truly a shining light in this world; her positive attitude and cheerfulness was appreciated by everyone she came in contact with. She loved to make people smile and laugh, and considered gloomy people a personal challenge to try to cheer them up! She delighted in giving small gifts and tokens of appreciation, but above all she gave of herself.
The family will receive friends at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Mt. Hope Mausoleum Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Topeka, Kansas with a memorial service following at 5:00 p.m.
