Shirley Mae Waddle

Shirley Mae Waddle, 95, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024. She was born at her family home in Washburn, Missouri on November 11, 1929, to Dewey and Aubrey (Schell) Scantlin. 

Shirley graduated from Haven High School in 1947. On September 5, 1955, Shirley married Richard Waddle of Abbyville, Kansas. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage together before Richard’s passing on August 17, 2007. She is also preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sisters.

She worked in a variety of positions throughout her life, retiring from McMurray Accounting, Hutchinson, after years of dedicated service. Shirley was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed artistic and creative hobbies such as drawing and ceramics. She and Richard were committed Christians and very active in serving their church and community. She enjoyed spending time with her growing family and had regular visitors and reunions. In October of this year, she celebrated her 95th birthday with a large gathering of friends and family. 

Survivors include children Terry Woods, Rob (Denise) Waddle, Jim Waddle (Gail Rieger), Julie Waddle, and Amy (Curtis) Wiltse; grandchildren, Abby (Pat) Highland, James (Brooke) Woods & Garrett (Traces) Woods, Alex (Shelbie) Waddle & Jessica Waddle (Paul Quigley), Kathryn Morris, Ryan Wiltse & Shay Wiltse, and 4 great-grandchildren. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Hutchinson. Shirley’s final resting place will be alongside Richard at the Abbyville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Community Church, Topeka, Kansas.
