Shirley Worthington was the bomb.
Her quiet strength allowed her to overcome challenges both big and small, until she passed away at age 66, on Monday August 31, 2020. She was with family at Midland Hospice House.
Shirley was born December 28, 1953 in Lawrence, the daughter of Charles and Leatha (Walter) Worthington.
She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1972. She was active in 4-H for much of her childhood—her 1965 Grand Champion Steer trophy remained a versatile piece of the household over the years ranging from a mantle show piece to a very functional door stop.
She sought out jobs that surrounded her with good people, including her work with the Special Education department at Stillwater Area Schools, in Stillwater, MN, and at Sam's Club in Woodbury, MN working at her sample station, chatting with customers and offering them a taste of the day's featured items.
She was a connoisseur of the best nature puzzles Amazon had to offer, as well as digital solitaire. Feeding the birds and caring for her flower garden always brought her joy.
Her four children who survive her are AMAZING. How do we know? Shirley made sure that everyone knew—whether a store cashier, her doctors, neighbors, and coworkers alike. Her children are Jake Jones of Olympia, WA, Michelle Desch of Aurora, CO, Sam Desch of Rochester, MN, and Mike Desch of Winona MN. Her AMAZING siblings also survive her. Jeanne Worthington of Topeka, KS, Joanne Gofreed of Sedona, AZ, and Galen Worthington of Winslow, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Dove Southwest Chapel is assisting with arrangements. To leave a special message for the family online, visit the guestbook below.
