Spencer D. Whitesell, 21, of Carbondale, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010 as a result of a vehicle accident. He was born on September 5, 1989 in Topeka, the son of Mike L. and Becky J. Morlan Whitesell. He graduated from Santa Fe Trail High School in 2008.
He was employed by Lower Heating and Air and was a volunteer for the Carbondale Fire Department. Spencer was a member of the Carbondale United Church of Christ. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed riding his ATV.
Survivors include his parents, Mike and Becky Whitesell of Carbondale, his siblings, Erica (Kenny) Wyatt of Burlingame, Logan Whitesell of the home, one nephew, A.J. and three nieces, Willow, Eva and York, his paternal grandparents, Gene and Ann Whitesell of Scranton and his maternal grandfather, L.D. (Dorothy) Morlan of Carbondale. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Genieva Morlan in 2002, his uncles; Danny, Doug and David and his cousin, Jason.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Highland Heights Christian Church. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Spencer will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Carbondale Fire Department, 132 Main St., Carbondale, KS 66414.
