Stanley Udell Hestand Sr.

October 6, 1945 — April 7, 2016

Stanley Udell Hestand went to Heaven on Thursday, April 7, 2016.
This loving Husband, Dad, Papa, and Friend will be greatly missed by all.

Stan and Kathy Hestand married on December 18, 1970 and spent 46 years loving the life they created together. Stan met Lieutenant Kathy Revenaugh, USAF Nurse, while he worked at Kaiser Steel, as a journeyman electrician, in Southern California. Since, he worked in the steel industry during Vietnam, he was prevented from serving in the military with his wife, who is a Vietnam Veteran. He was employed at Kaiser Steel for 18 years before it closed to become the Fontana Speedway. Stan then became a dual craftsman Machinist/Electrician with the Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF shops) where he retired in 2007. Little did he know, that his new position would eventually move his family from San Bernardino, California to Topeka, Kansas in 1993, where his family still resides. While living in California, Stan ran the St. Vincent de Paul Society which distributed clothes, food, and support to the poor in the San Bernardino Area.

Stan and Kathy lived a full life together raising three children; Stanley Hestand Jr., Becky Hestand Evans (Kent), and Sandy Hestand Puett (Jason). The children have many memories of their dad attending their college graduation ceremonies, festival singers' concerts, weddings, and births of his grandchildren. Stan was very proud of all of his children's accomplishments and his children thank him for the love, hard work and devotion he gave them daily. Our father along with our mother always stood by our side and made us feel like we could accomplish anything. Kathy, who survives, will continue to support the family with love.

Stan was blessed to have four grandchildren; Kaden age 8 and Braden age 7 (mother Becky); Autumn age 11 and Aaron age 8 (mother Sandy). He had great love for his grandchildren and after his retirement opened "Papa's Daycare" where he enjoyed playing and helping his grandchildren grow. His grandchildren will always remember how much they were loved and made to feel special by their Papa. He was very involved in his grandchildren's lives and activities. You would see him cheering on his grandson's at sporting events and cub scouts. He loved to watch his granddaughter sing and serve at Mass. He was honored to attend the First Communion and Baptisms of his grandchildren at Mater Dei (Holy Name) Catholic Church where Stan and Kathy are also active members of the Parish. His grandchildren will always also remember Papa's love of Christmas and striking resemblance to Santa Claus. He always tried to make the holidays extra special for the kids and would take them for family vacations to enjoy time together and the true meaning of Christmas. Stan showed his children and grandchildren the true meaning of love and family devotion. He was always there for them, even though he was in pain in his final days, he attended every event that he possibly could in order to support them.

Stan was born October 6, 1945, in Altus, Oklahoma, the son of Cody and Nina (Munden) Hestand. His sister Tammy (Hestand) Rehm resides in California and his brother Loyd Wayne Hestand in Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings survive. Stan graduated from Altus High School in 1963. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends Mike Allen, Fred "Bubba" Foster, Kenneth Graham, and many other young men during their time together playing sports and living young life. He kept in touch throughout his retirement years and even attended his 50th High School Reunion in Altus, Oklahoma. He was a proud Okie and loved his OU Sooners. He loved to keep in touch with family and friends through Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/stan.hestand
