Stephen Carl Damron, passed away peacefully in Topeka, Kansas, on January 27, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on August 6, 1949, in Topeka, he lived a life dedicated to service, community, and family.
Steve's career spanned an impressive 29 years as a Detective with the City of Topeka Police Department. His commitment to public service was further exemplified through his military service in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971, where he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, followed by service in the Air National Guard at Forbes Field in Topeka. To his core, service was not just a job for Steve; it was a calling that resonated throughout every aspect of his life.
An outgoing and spirited individual, Steve had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting, embracing the beauty of nature in its many forms. Beyond his love for the natural world, Steve cherished his role as a Scout Leader, where he led and cared for others, instilling values and leadership skills in the youth he guided. Motorcycle riding was also a significant part of his life, with Steve being an active member of the Heartland Riders BMW Motorcycle Club. He not only embraced adventure himself but also found joy in attending sports events for his grandchildren, proudly supporting their endeavors.
Steve's proudest accomplishments included the wonderful life he shared with this wife as well as his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Nancy Lee Buchlein, and their son, Stephen Carl (Candi) Damron II. He also leaves his Sister, Julie Damron (Phil) Dittmer, along with cherished grandchildren Mitchell, Abigail, and William Damron, as well as great-grandchildren Cali Damron and Bennett O'Brien.
Steve’s memory will be forever cherished not only by his immediate family but also by those whose lives he touched throughout his years of dedication and service. He is preceded in death by his son Brian Alan Damron and his parents, William Damron and Joyce (Dryden) Damron.
In remembering Steve, we celebrate a life that embodied kindness, dedication, and a deep commitment to both family and community. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
