Stephen N. Paige – Topeka, KS

Steve lost his battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, on August 29, 2022. He was born June 22, 1948, the son of George N. and Helen L. (Breckenridge) Paige, Emporia, KS.

He graduated Topeka West High School 1966, Washburn University with a B.A. in Biology, 1970, and the University of Kansas with a MPA, 1982.

He married Jacolin L. Montfoort on September 23, 2000; she survives at home. Children are Laura R. (Chris) Williams, Lawrence, KS; Travis G. (Lorrae Aker) Paige and their daughters, Brookelyn, Kielyn, Talyn and MaKinlyn, Whitewood, SD; and Mitchell L. (Laci Reamer) Paige and their son, Wyatt, Topeka, KS; Grandchildren are Nathan, Benjamin, and Cameron Williams, Lawrence and Brodie Paige, Topeka. Brothers Robert G. Paige, Austin, TX and Marvin J. (Carole) Paige, Southbury, CT.

Steve retired after 38 years, with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Twenty-seven years as a Public Health Director, implementing programs benefiting children, Kansas citizens and the environment; including, food and drug, environmental health, epidemiology, childcare licensing, childhood lead poisoning prevention, emergency response, STD, immunization, TB control, and radiation control. He was a FDA Commissioned Officer and Kansas Registered Sanitarian #001.

He participated on the Shawnee County Extension Board, Doorstep Topeka Board, and was an Assistant Scout Master Troop 175. He volunteered at Shawnee County Master Gardeners, Konza Prairie Docent, Topeka Zoo, and Doorstep. He was a member of the Lowman United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed hunting, boating (fast and slow), yacht racing, wood carving, camping, hiking, travel to National Parks and National Monuments, and KU sports. An avid motorcyclist, having ridden through all 105 Kansas counties.

He was a lifelong learner. Always had something funny to say or wise words to offer. He was the ultimate handyman as he could meticulously build, fix, and make anything, known as "the Paige know how". He was a loving husband, father, Grandpa, and friend.

His parents proceeded him in death.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2022 at Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, Kansas.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Lowman United Methodist Church, 4101 SW 15th Street in Topeka.
