Steven Lawrence "Steve" Farrar, 68, of Tecumseh, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at a Topeka hospital. He was born September 22, 1951 in Topeka, the son of Larry and Helen (Higgins) Farrar.
Steve moved to Tecumseh when he was 7 years old. He attended Tecumseh North Elementary School and Shawnee Heights High School where he graduated in 1969. He attended Emporia State University for a short time before discovering college wasn't for him.
Steve worked in the automobile business in the Topeka area for over 40 years. He loved the car business. He wasn't real good at remembering customer's names but never forgot a face.
Steve was a big KU basketball & Chief's fan. He never missed a game unless it was an emergency! He was the jokester and never lost his sense of humor. He always said "Basically I am one boring guy" Get up, go to work, go out to eat, go to bed and repeat daily". He didn't have many hobbies but liked to go to the dirt track races, eat and play certain computer games.
Steve spent most of the last 3 months in the hospital. When he was diagnosed with cancer, we were devastated. As it turned out, the cancer was under control and it was all of the other issues that took him.
Steve married Marla J. Miller on April 7, 1984 in Topeka. They shared 35 years of marriage and produced a one and only child, Travis Dale Farrar in 1988. He is our pride and joy. They both survive. Other survivors include his mother, Helen Farrar of Topeka, one sister, Linda Bierley of Topeka and several nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, Larry Farrar and his grandparents.
We will miss him dearly but knowing he is in a better place and no longer has to suffer is a comfort to us.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Steve's Life will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020 at The Landing Grille & Bar, 2920 S.E. Croco Rd., Topeka, Kansas 66605. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
