Steven Miguel Zozaya, 66, of Topeka, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. He was born July 26, 1942, in Needles, California, the son of Samuel Manuel Zozaya, and Maria Nieves (Rodriguez) Zozaya.
Steven was born and raised in Needles, California. He attended Needles High School and graduated in 1961. He was married to Olivia Y. Delgado, on March 5, 2009 in Topeka, Kansas. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Ranger. He was employed with the Santa Fe Railroad for 44 years. He also worked as a bus driver for Topeka LULAC Senior Center. Steven was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge, the American Legion Post 1 and VFW Post 1650. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, traveling, gardening, and was a jack of all trades.
Steven is survived by his loving and caring wife Olivia, son Steven M. Zozaya, daughters Cynthia M. (Carl) Russell, Yvonne D. Zozaya; stepchildren, Gracie Phiri, Yolanda Marin, Connie Tinoco, Sylvia Cortez, and Guillermo Cortez III; two brothers Samuel J. and Robert Zozaya, and one sister Marianne Ranes; grandchildren, Manuel R. and Ty A. Russell; Rudy B., and Rachel N. Zozaya, and his loving pets, Chico and Chloe. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday April 13, 2009 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1700 SW Stone, Topeka, KS. Inurnment will take place April 17, 2009 at Riverview Cemetery in Needles, California. Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka LULAC Senior Center, 1502 NE Seward Ave. Topeka, KS.
