February 7, 1957 — August 19, 2016

Susan Gayle "Susie" Young Mather, 59, of Topeka, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016. She was born February 7, 1957 at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Illinois. Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Lee Young and Virginia Lee (Strahn) Young and her sister, Carol Lynne Appelhanz. Susie says "Goodbye" to her surviving family members: sisters, Kay Killian (Roger) and Jill Toy (Jim); nieces, Elaine Appelhanz and Amber Toy Leonard (Eric); nephews, Neil Killian, Jeffery Killian, Erik Snow, and Austin Toy of Phoenix, AZ; along with many great nieces and nephews, Connor, Celsea and Autumn Killian and Alexis and Eli Leonard. She also leaves to cherish her memory, the love of her life, Gregory Wynn Lutz and her beloved pets, Butch, Laura Lee and Winker.

Susie graduated in 1975 from Topeka West High School after traveling as a military brat (LOL) throughout the United States and Tachikawa, Japan. She was employed in Hotel Management and oversaw the development and opening of the Holiday Inn Express in Leavenworth, KS, prior to moving back to Topeka. She then worked as a manager for the Days Inn in Topeka.

Susie had many hobbies including sewing, building doll houses, playing games with her family, and her favorite, bird and squirrel watching.

There will be no services per her request, but she wanted her family and friends to know they are all in her heart. Susie said she was looking forward to the Rainbow Bridge to see all her loved ones and pets that preceded her in death.

With her love for animals, she said please remember…"Adopt don't shop".

In lieu of flowers, Susie would like any memorial contributions in her honor to be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st Street Topeka, KS 66604 or Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606, as they gave her such loving and good care.
