Susan A. Whitaker, 66, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
She was born August 13, 1955, in Menlo, Georgia, the daughter of Daniel and Mercedes (Johnson) Lawrence. She graduated from Highland Park High School. Later in life, she attended Friends University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Science in February 2009.
Susan worked for Valeo Behavioral Health in Human Resources for 32 years. She enjoyed working there and helping people within the community.
She loved taking walks on the trails at the Governor's Mansion. She also enjoyed reading, gardening in her yard and cooking with Dave. Susan loved her black lab, Ebony.
Susan married Dave Whitaker on March 17, 1997 at their home in Topeka. They just recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Whitaker; children, Shane (Jill Hodges) McGrath and Savanna (J.D. Hight) Whitaker; grandchildren, Devon (Grant) White and Aaron McGrath; one Brother, Phil (Barb) Lawrence and Cousin, Raymond (Pam) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of Susan's life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the Dove Southwest Funeral Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, Kansas 66610. Memorial contributions may be made to ASPCA online, aspca.org/donate.
