Sylva M. McDowell, 95, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018. She was born June 22, 1923 in Mooreland, Oklahoma, one of six children born to Will and Pauline (Sammer) McDowell.
Sylva grew up in Topeka and graduated from the Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing. She held several different positions during her career before retiring from the Kansas State Board of Health. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Sylva is survived by two nieces and one nephew.
Sylva was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
As per Sylva's wishes, cremation has taken place and no memorial services are planned. Private inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd., Topeka, Kansas 66603 or to the Good Samaritan Fund at the Topeka Presbyterian Manor, 4712 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66606.
