Sylvan C. "Red" Bingham, 74, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at his home. He was a life-long resident of Topeka, and was born September 24, 1937 to Marion and Ruth Bingham.
He was retired from the State of Kansas as a State Grain Inspector and Human Resource Mail-center, and was recently employed by O'Reilly Auto Parts. He was a member of Grace Community Church.
Red married Lynda K. Hughes on July 5, 1959 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, James (Jonel) Bingham, Marvin Bingham, one daughter, Julie (Russell) Morrison, three grandchildren (and their spouses), nine great-grandchildren, three sisters, Dorothy Sayles, Evelyn Barngrover, Carolyn Ralph and two brothers, Jack and Kenneth. Red was preceded in death by his parents, and his four brothers, Neville, George, Robert and Allan.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Grace Community Church. Burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery. Red will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Grace Community Church, 4300 SW Burlingame Rd., Topeka, KS 66609 or to Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
