Sylvia Colombo, 81, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at a Topeka hospital. She was born August 30, 1938 in Emporia, the daughter of Harry M. and Mildred L. (York) Snyder.
Sylvia graduated from Waverly High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education Degree from Emporia State University in 1961. She taught kindergarten at Burlington, Kansas and Bethesda, Maryland. Later she was employed by the BNSF Railroad and retired with almost 30 years of service as a clerk in the Accounting Department.
Sylvia was a member of the Countryside United Methodist Church, 60 plus life member of the Loyal Chapter #176 Order of the Eastern Star, Ancient Toltec Rite Council No. 1, AMORC Rosicrucian Fellowship, White Shrine Trinity No. 1, former member of DAR Topeka Chapter, Association for Research and Enlightenment, Self Realization Fellowship, supported Allied Tribes of Shawnee County and Kansas Author's Club District #1. Her book, "I Danced With Crazy Horse" was published in 2006 and a copy is in the Library of Congress and the Kansas Hall of Fame.
Sylvia married Larry E. Eiker on August 6, 1961 in Waverly, Kansas. They later divorced. She married James Leroy Colombo. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1990. She was also preceded in death by one son, Jeff Whitney Eiker on August 6, 1981.
Survivors include her brother, Walter "Stan" (Sharon) Snyder of Waverly, Kansas, her nephews, Russell Snyder of Waverly, Mike (Amy) Snyder of Valley Center, great-nephews, Cameron and Logan Snyder, step-nephew, Sam Benz of Valley Center and step-niece Allison (Cody) Schniepp of Hayesville, their two children and several first cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Countryside United Methodist Church. Eastern Star services will be provided by the Loyal Chapter No. 176. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or Shriner's Hospital Travel Fund, c/o Arab Temple, 1305 S Kansas Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66612.
