Sylvia Wright-Coe, 85, Topeka, formerly of Osage City, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2006, at Aldersgate Village, Topeka.
She was born June 5, 1921 in Allen, Lyon Co., the daughter of Benjamin & Anna Ethel Worley. She was a homemaker and worked part time for Peel's Beauty Supply. She was a member of Stotler Covenant Church in Osage City and Christ Lutheran Church in Topeka.
Sylvia was active in her church and committee. She had been the president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and President of the Navy Mothers, Past-President of Parley Capital Unit # 1. She had volunteered for the Dept of Veteran Affair of the VA Voluntary Service, Partners of Shawnee Salon # 241 8 & 40, Stormont-Vail Health Wise 55 Volunteer, AARP, Silver Haired Legislature, Jayhawk Navy Mothers Club # 83, American War Dads Auxiliary, American Red Cross, Community Action, Inc., SNAP Program and LWMS. Sylvia also worked for the Shawnee County Election Board, and was nominated for the JC Penny's Award for Voluntary of the year.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy Price and Husband Charles, Wakarusa, Nancy Overholt, and husband Floyd of Shawnee, three sons; Alfred Wright Jr., Topeka, Richard Wright, and wife Sherryl, Lawrence, and David Wright and his wife Connie, Osage City, and a nephew, Donald Charles Worley, Portland, OR. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Alfred L Wright, who farmed and operated a dairy farm in Osage City, passing away in 1971, and Dan D. Coe, Topeka, passing away in 1987; two daughters; Patricia Ann Orender, and Wanda Lee France, four grandchildren, Charles E. Price III, Debra Sue McKisick, Joyce Lee Humsaker and Keith Wm Orender; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Wright, two brothers; Everett W. Worley, and twin brother Cecil J. Worley, formerly of Allen Kansas, and a sister, Mary Fritz.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2006, at Christ Lutheran Church, 3509 SW Burlingame Rd, with burial to follow at American Cemetery, Osage City. Sylvia will lie in state after 4 p.m., Sunday, July 23, at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, where the family will meet with friends from 4 to 6 p.m. that evening.
