Tamra Lynn Dennis, 40, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021.
She was born June 28, 1980, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Lester E. Dennis and Martha K. Griffith. She received a surgical technician certificate from Kaw Valley Technical School and a bachelor's degree in nursing from Washburn University.
Tamra was employed by Stormont-Vail for 20 years, including the past seven years as an OR nurse. She also spent many years working in the local correctional system as a nurse. She received the Daisy Award honoring extraordinary compassion for her work in the field.
Tamra was married to Jeremy Curtis DeLong, son of Ed and Carol DeLong; they later divorced. Survivors include her common law husband, Ryan Hazlett of Topeka; children, Jordan Lynn DeLong (Parker Reynoso) of Topeka and Tyler Logan DeLong of Florida; parents Lester E. Dennis (Jacquelyn) of Topeka and Martha Griffith of Topeka; step-siblings, Robin Smith (Randy) of Oklahoma, Richard Griffith Jr. of Topeka, and Douglas Griffith (Kim) of Tennessee; many nieces and nephews; and her Stormont-Vail work family. She was preceded in death by her step-father Richard Griffith Sr. of Topeka, her grandfathers, David Lee Lynn, LeRoy Dennis Sr. of Topeka, and her grandmother Nancy Carey of Topeka.
Tamra enjoyed trying to garden, cooking, reading, and animals. She loved to see her kids succeed.
Tamra was cremated after donating her retinas. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 10 at 12:00 p.m. at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. A reception will follow the service at 1:00 PM at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, 1025 Vermont Avenue NW Suite 1066, Washington, DC 20005.
