Thelma J. Grimes, 78, Topeka, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2008 at a local hospital.
Thelma was born Feb 14, 1930 in Courtland, Kansas the daughter of Roy and Lela (Bettis) Evert. She graduated from Courtland High School in 1948.
She worked as a Telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in Bellville, Kansas and then in the Accounting department in Topeka, Kansas. She also worked for Sears, K-Mart and sold Avon in Topeka.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral, Stormont-Vail Auxiliary and Active Prime Timers in Topeka.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family.
Thelma married Donald E. Grimes on February 6, 1955 in Courtland. He survives. Other survivors include daughter, Diane (Jim) Hammett, Tyler, TX; son, Craig (Myra) Grimes, Topeka, KS; grandchildren, Jamie and Dustin Hammett, Tyler, TX, Lauren and Alex Grimes, Topeka, KS; and great-grandchildren, Savannah, Madison and Damian Hammett, all of Tyler, TX. She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Thelma will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Monday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
