Theron L. "Ted" Maupin, 81, Topeka, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 at a local hospital.
Ted was born January 12, 1932 in Topeka, the son of John D. and Lucille (Lambert) Maupin. He graduated from Silver Lake High School and Washburn University. While at Washburn, he was involved in R.O.T.C. and later served in the U.S. Army for 2 years.
He worked in the Insurance industry for 18 years, achieving the CLU designation, before going to work for the State of Kansas in the Audit section of S.R.S. He retired in 1997.
He was a member of Washburn University Alumni, Phi Delta Theta Alumni, Countryside United Methodist Church, and the American Legion.
Ted married Carmen Sue Lightbody on November 12, 1955. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Susan Leigh Sheffield and husband, Michael, Doylestown, PA; and grandchildren, Micaela and Spenser Sheffield. He was preceded in death by a brother, Duane Maupin; and twin sister, Marilyn Olson.
Ted enjoyed spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Countryside United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Ted will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
