Thomas D. "Champ" Carmona, 40, of Topeka, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19.

He later received his Master's Degree in Architecture from the University of Kansas in 2017.

He deeply loved his family. He especially liked spending time with his extended family and friends. He was an outgoing person who always wanted to make people smile and laugh. He enjoyed woodworking and doing home renovations.

Thomas was employed by Schwerdt Design Group. He was active in the Topeka Chapter of the AIA and the Forge Section of the Greater Topeka Partnership. He was a graduate of Leadership Greater Topeka in 2020 and was a member of the 20/30 Club of Topeka.

Thomas married Miranda Owens on October 23, 2010 in Ellinwood, Kansas, she survives. Other survivors include his children; son, Thomas Leon Carmona and daughter, Lucina Catherine Carmona; father, Thomas A. Carmona; sister, Shannon Sanchez; and grandmother, Kate Carmona. He was preceded in death by his mother, Terresa Carmona; and his grandparents, David Sanchez, Mary Jane Sandoval and Thomas M. Carmona.

The family wants to thank the nurses, doctors and hospital staff at Stormont Vail Health for their excellent care during this difficult time.

Cremation is planned. He really loved a great party and getting his friends and family together, so a celebration of his life will be held at a later date when it is safer to get together.

As a student who went back to college later in life, education was important to him. Therefore, a fund has been set up for his children's education; "Thomas and Lucina Carmona Education Fund" through Envista Credit Union.
