Thomas C. Henderson

Thomas C. "Tom" Henderson, 75, of Topeka, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

He was born July 29, 1948, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Glen and Mary (Furgason) Henderson. He was a 1966 graduate of Topeka High School. He received his bachelor's (1971) and juris doctorate (1974) degrees from Washburn University.

Tom practiced law for five decades. He retired as an administrative law judge from the Kansas Department of Labor and continued to practice law with Alderson, Alderson, Conklin, Crow & Slinkard, of counsel, for many years. Tom dedicated his practice to serving disadvantaged persons, particularly veterans, and continued to serve his clients until his death.

Tom was a member of the Topeka Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, the American Poolplayers Association, Friends of the Topeka Zoo, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and the Washburn University Alumni Association.

Tom married Cinda Sue Foster on April 8, 1972 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include his two sons, Keith (Stefanie) Henderson of Lawrence; and Kent (Gigi) Henderson of Topeka and five grandchildren, Landon, Josephine, Annie, Evelyn, and Maddie; his brother, Jay B. Henderson of Topeka; and many beloved cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tom was an avid golfer who could be found on the links nearly every day. He was a proud Ichabod and also cheered for the Jayhawks, the Yankees, and the Philadelphia Eagles. Tom was a baseball card collector and loved the game of baseball. In his younger days, Tom fancied himself the finest softball player in Topeka. Whether it was intermural sports with his fraternity brothers or board games with the family, Tom loved to compete. In his later years Tom played pool competitively with his son, Kent, and with college friends.

Tom dedicated his life to helping others. There was never a burden he shrugged or a challenge he avoided. Wherever a helping hand was needed, Tom was there. Most of all Tom loved his family, in particular his five grandchild who were his pride and joy.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Dove Cremation & Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, KS.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.
