Thomas Carlyle Huff, 93, transitioned peacefully from this life on earth, Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 23, 1916 in a dugout on his parents' homestead in Des Moines, New Mexico, the son of Isaac Cleveland "Ike" and Kathryn Leora Ater Huff. His childhood years were spent in Hooker, Oklahoma where he graduated from Hooker High School in 1934.
He was married to Alta Maxwell on July 6, 1935 in Chandler, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on January 7, 1995.
He began his college education as an engineering student at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He changed majors when he decided to go into the ministry and attended Oklahoma City University and Hendrix College, Conway, Arkansas where he received his B.A. Degree in 1941.
He attended Southern Methodist University where he worked toward a Master's Degree in Theology. He also attended Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. He served in various churches in Arkansas in including Greenbrier and Jasper. In 1946, he received the Outstanding Young Man of the Year Award for the State of Arkansas. Later in life, he changed professions and worked in sales, including life insurance and as a Volkswagen salesman.
Tom was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Topeka, and was a founding member of Prairie Haven.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn A. Huff of Topeka and many loving friends.
Cremation is planned and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Topeka, 4775 SW 21st. St., Topeka, KS 66614. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Topeka.
