Thomas P. Barr, Sr., 72, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away August 2, 2011 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 15, 1939 to George T. and Olive B. (Bouldin-Kerr) Barr. He graduated from Capital Hill High School in Oklahoma City in 1957 and attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1961 and went on to work on his graduate degree in Archeology. He served in the Army National Guard Reserve and attained the rank of Staff Sgt.
He married Patricia L. Moehlman in Topeka, KS on Dec. 21, 1968. She survives. He is also survived by his son, Thomas P. Barr Jr. and his wife Kelly, and grandson, Thomas "Trey" P. Barr III of Topeka, Kansas; his son Jonathan L. Barr and his wife Katherine and grandsons Walter and Frederick Barr of Seattle, Washington; his daughter Jennifer M. Barr of Seattle, Washington; and his sister, Emily Barr, Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Barr.
Tom lived in Topeka for over 40 years and was employed by the State of Kansas. He was a historic archaeologist and served as Director of Historic Properties. He was a lifetime member of the Mulvane Art Board & served as Liaison for Meadowlark Health Art Acquisitions. He was a member of the Kansas Historical Preservation Board and the 89ers Society of Oklahoma. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting pottery.
A Memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Topeka at 10 AM on Monday, Aug. 8. The family will receive friends following the service in Disciples Hall.
