Thomas Gilbert Wyatt, 82, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 in Topeka.
He was born September 15, 1934 in Henderson, Kentucky, the son of Willam James and Vena Ann (Abrams) Wyatt.
Tom attended grade schools in Henderson and after graduating from Barrettt Manual Training High School in Henderson he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952. After completing his enlistment he was employed in the retail field for several years in Colorado, New Mexico and Kansas. He was employed at Kansas State University for several months. In June of 1978 he was employed with Federal Civil Service and enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard. He retired in September of 1994 with over 20 years of service in both the Military and Federal Civil Service. He completed Business Courses at Mercer County Community College at attended Kansas State University in Manhattan.
He married Rose A. Prockish Ady on November 22, 1980 in Manhattan, KS. She survives of the home. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Edna, Mary Helen and Carolyn, a brother, Roy and a daughter, Jennifer Wyatt. In addition to his wife Rose, he is survived by his son, Thomas A. Wyatt; his daughter, Jeanette M. Wyatt; step-son, Edwin Mitchell Ady; step-daughter, Rebecca A. Rauch; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Tom and Rose lived in Manhattan, Kansas from November 1980 until October 1999 when they moved to Westmoreland, Kansas. In May of 2006 they moved to Wamego, Kansas.
Tom and Rose were avid American Indian Artifact collectors, having a large collection he and Rose exhibited their artifacts in over 9 states.
They attended many archeological meetings and artifact shows being presented several awards for their collection. Tom and Rose has had articles published in Centeral States Archaeological Society from Ohio, Indian Artifact Magazine from Pennsylvania and the Kansas Archaeological Society. Tom and Rose Collection was also published in Who's Who of Indian Artifacts issue No. 9 and issue No. 10 in 2010.
Tom certainly enjoyed the out of doors. Not only looking for Indian Artifacts but hunting, fishing and just being out in the fresh air.
He was a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Kansas State Historical Society. He was Founder and first President of the Kansas Archaeological Society and the Missouri Archaeological Society. He was a member of the Westmoreland Service Club and the Rock Creek Valley Historical Society, as well as, the Archaeological Society of Kansas, Texas, Missouri and Illinois.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Zeandale, Kansas.
