Tommy Franklin Bevan, 77, of Topeka, formerly of Scranton, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015. He was born November 15, 1937, in Scranton, the son of Walter and Ruby (Palmer) Bevan. Tommy was raised in Carbondale, Kansas, attended Carbondale schools and graduated from Carbondale High School in 1956.
Tommy served in the U.S. Navy and was employed by Craine & Company.
Tommy was a long time member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church, Covert Racing, the Highland Park Booster Club from 1994 to 2010, the Optimist Club and he was a youth group sponsor for many years. Tommy enjoyed fishing, playing poker online, and Nascar racing.
Tommy married Julia Ware on June 4th, 1961 in Wellsville, Kansas. She preceded him in death. Survivors include a daughter, Sara Morgan (Kyle); son, David Bevan; daughter, Sandi Utz, sister-in-law, Lois Ware; grandsons, Jacob, Andrew, and Taylor Brown, and granddaughter, Jaidyn Utz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia and his parents.
Tommy was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 22nd at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 S. E. Michigan, Topeka, Kansas 66605. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church. Interment of the cremated remains will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Park United Methodist Youth Fellowship.
