Tommy Lee Hummer, 68, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born January 25, 1944 in Topeka, the son of Thomas and Marjorie (Hockett) Hummer.
Tommy was a Topeka Police Officer for several years. He later resided in Colorado and Montana before moving back to Topeka. Tommy was very active in Boy Scouts of America and received his Eagle Award on July 12, 1959. He spent 12 days at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico in 1958. He attended Camp Jayhawk three years, and was a staff member one summer. Tommy was an avid outdoorsman, and loved fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his father, Tom Hummer of Topeka, three sons, Tommy of Topeka, Timmy (Tracy) of Liberty, MO, Troy of Columbia Falls, MT, ten grandchildren, his sister, Cheryl (Bob) Holt of Tecumseh and his brother, Terry of Topeka. He is also survived by a special cousin, Bob Hodges, who was always there for him. Tommy was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie in 2002.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Tommy Lee Hummer Memorial Fund c/o Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave., Topeka, KS 66605.
