Tyra Y. Matthews, 51, Topeka, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Midland Hospice House.
Tyra was born May 23, 1963 in Annapolis, MD, the daughter of Jack and Sylvia (Parker) Johnson. She grew up and attended schools in San Diego, CA.
She was a child care provider with several day care facilities.
Tyra was an active member of her church (Good Shepherd Church). She loved arts and crafts, crocheting blankets for friends and family, Reading, and was always learning new methods and skills as a Nail and Skin Technician.
Tyra married Glenn Matthews in 1984. They later divorced. Survivors include son, Brian Matthews, Topeka; Grandson, Devante Matthews, Topeka; her father, Jack Johnson, San Diego, CA; sisters, Yvette Austin, Annapolis, MD, Donna Karasiewicz, San Diego, CA, Tyshia Johnson, Las Vegas, NV; and brothers, Dewayne Johnson, San Diego, CA, Demond Johnson, San Diego, CA. She was preceded in death by her mother.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, January 12th at Good Shepherd Church, 7630 Southwest 21st Street, Topeka, KS 66615. Private family inurnment will be in held at a later date.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Cancer Research institute.
