Ulysses W. Mead, 88, of Topeka, passed away, Sunday, July 31, 2005.
He was born July 2, 1917 at Leavenworth, Kansas the son of Edward and Mary Wolfe Mead. He was a 1934 graduate of Leavenworth High School. Mr. Mead resided in Leavenworth until moving to Topeka in 1997.
Mr. Mead was an iron worker with Local #10 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII.
He was married to Edna Crook. She preceded him in death in 1974. He later married Lorraine Chambers. She preceded him in death in 1997. Survivors include: a son, Kevin Mead, Topeka; three daughters, Janet Gabrick, Kapoeli, HI; Sharon A. Winsor, and Mary Rae Harms both of Topeka; a step son and step daughter Robert Chambers and Pat Nelson both of Leavenworth; 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 10:00am Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 1:30pm at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Lansing, KS. Mr. Mead will lie in state after 12:00 noon Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
