Valerie Lynne Rees

September 23, 1952 — January 11, 2025

Valerie Lynne Rees, 72, of Auburn, passed away at home Saturday, January 11, 2025 after battling cancer for 7 years.

She was born September 23, 1952, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of Earl and Bonnie (Crook) Ebert. She graduated from Seaman High School, and attended a year at Washburn University. 

Valerie worked for many years in the banking industry before becoming a teacher/director for the Auburn Christian Church Preschool, retiring in 2015 to spend time with her grandkids.

Mrs. Rees was a member of the Auburn Christian Church, of Auburn. She enjoyed getting together with her Monday night Bible study group. 

Valerie married Wayne Rees on November 23, 1974 at Northland Christian Church in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include son, Adam (Tina) Rees; daughters, Katie Rees and Erin (Clint) Collier; 6 grandchildren, brothers, Gary Ebert and Mike Ebert, 3 nephews, 1 niece and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Valerie was very involved in 4H from her own youth and into her children’s youth. She was a member of the Shawnee County Horse Club and the AQHA. She loved to be outside with her family, friends and animals. 

Valerie’s wishes were to be cremated. A Service of Remembrance will on February 7th at the Auburn Community Center at 4:00 PM. A meal will be served for family and friends after the service. Please join us to share memories and stories of Valerie’s life. We will be there to greet you until 7:00PM.
