Velda M. Henderson-King Jackson, 79, Topeka, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Presbyterian Manor.
Velda was born January 18, 1934 in Manhattan, the daughter of Vernon King and Adeline Fulghem-Henderson. She attended Manhattan High School.
She worked at Kansas State University and later at Brewster Place as a nurse's aide. She was a member of the Wanamaker Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and listening to talking books.
Velda married Donaven C. Jackson, Sr. He died October 24, 2010.
Survivors include five children, Gladys M. (Ken) Jackson-Cooper, Lincoln, NE, Donaven C. Jackson, Jr., Wichita, KS, Keith M. Jackson, Sr. Topeka, KS, Wendy D.(Marvin) Jackson Peters, Topeka, KS, Jeffrey A. (Rita) Jackson, Wichita, KS; nine grandchildren, Keith M. Jackson, Jr., Topeka, KS, Danielle Jackson, Wichita, KS, Tracy M. Woods (Dwayne) Wright, Lincoln, NE, Katrina D. Jackson (Sam) Breeden, Jr., Wichita, KS, Lakesha T.(Jackson) Suarez, Topeka, KS, Brian T. Peters, Topeka, KS, Cameron C. Jackson, Salina, KS, Nathaniel A. Jackson, Wichita, KS and Zachary K. Jackson, Wichita, KS; 12 great grand children; sisters, Lois English, Jane Heard, both of Muncie, IN; brother, John Henderson, Carson, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Velda was also preceded in death by her parents, son, Kevin M. Jackson; grandson, Marvin L. Peters III; sisters, Marion Holman, Rose Cotton, Delilah "Dee" Reece; and brother, James Dorsey, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Wanamaker Seventh Day Adventist Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Velda will lie in repose at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
