Velma Darlene Fleming

Velma Darlene "Pat" Fleming, 94, Holton, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018.

Velma was born to Carl and Georgia Craft in 1923, the youngest of 5 children. Velma grew up on a farm near Burlingame. Later they would move to another farm near Osage City. As a very young child, Velma Showed great talent as a pianist. She continued to advance in this throughout her life, entertaining many and playing and singing in her church. After graduating High School, Velma went on to Emporia State University Teachers College. This was cut short due to the war. She moved to Wichita to help in the war effort by working at Beech Aircraft.

Velma married her grade school sweetheart, Orville Lee Fleming in 1943; moving to Topeka where they would raise 3 children, Kathie, Scott and Lorie.
Preceding her in death were her husband Orville; and oldest daughter, Kathie Cox. Survivors include her son, Scott Fleming; daughter, Lorie Fleming (Jake) Huyett, Holton; son-in-law, Richard Cox, Topeka; grandchildren, Heather Cox (Randy) Klingbeil, Topeka, Jeremiah Huyett, Holton; great grandsons, Jacob, Jace and Jamison Huyett all of Holton; and several loving nephews and nieces.

Velma had been in the loving care of the people at The Pines of Holton for the past 2 years.

Velma left us all with many fond memories and the understanding of love, strength and hope.

Per Velma's request, she will be cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pines of Holton or Holton Community Home Health and Hospice.
