Velma M. King

Velma M. King, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at a Topeka hospital. She was born on January 30, 1923 in Dover, the daughter of Harvey and Mary Burnham Patterson. She resided in Topeka for most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Heritage Park Wesleyan Church. Velma married Robert F. King on April 10, 1942 in Topeka. He preceded her in death in December 11, 2002. Survivors include her children, Roberta M. Perron-Doty, Sondra S. King, George A. King, Joyce A. (Scott) Hedlund all of Topeka, nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, one brother, Harvey Patterson, Jr. of Wichita and one twin sister, Thelma Lindsey of California. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Park Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Velma will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Heritage Park Wesleyan Church, 2131 S.W. Harrison St., Topeka, KS 66611.
