A beautiful life we loved came to a close on Thursday 12-10-20.
Vera Carol Smith was born on June 28, 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas to the late Katherine M. Stevenson and Ira C. Smith. Vera (also called Carol) was the second oldest of six children that Katherine Stevenson and Ira Smith had together.
She spent all of her childhood in the Kansas City area, and all of her adult life in the Topeka Kansas, (KNI) Area.
Carol is survived by two brothers; Ira Smith Jr. Of Aurora Colorado and Dennis Smith of Richmond Ca. She is survived by two sisters. Teresa McCaskill of Aurora Colorado, and Pamela Macklin of Lawrence Kansas. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Vera was always looked upon as our sister. We did not see her as being handicapped or any kind of deformities. When our mother would bring out the strap Carol was taking her share of punishment, just like everybody else. Carol was always very active and as a child she was also very physical, as my two sisters can attest to that. They met with Carol's right hand of justice, many times. Vera would run and fuss with us all day but Vera had a loving side to her that we all loved.
Her family will always remember and cherish the good time we shared all of her life. We miss you Carol, and we will see you on the other side Carol. We all love you.
A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Vera will lie in state at the Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road from 10:00 a.m. - 4:-00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2020.
