Vern Knobelauch

Vern Knobelauch, 83, of Topeka passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Midland Hospital House. He was born October 12, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Kaj and Gudren Knobelauch, Danish immigrants.

Mr. Knobelauch was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church since 1972. He was an active member of The Topeka Evening Sertoma Club. On October 16, 2012 he received a lifetime membership achievement award in appreciation for extraordinary service to mankind. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1948 on destroyer escorts. Following his naval service he became a Sea Scout youth leader at Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska. His career was in sales. He was a fabulous dancer.

Vern married the love of his life, Joann Frish on September 23, 1961 in Omaha, Nebraska. They moved to Topeka, Kansas in 1971. They both are survived by their children, Kurt Knobelauch of Phoenix, Arizona; daughters, Christiane Taylor of Topeka, Kansas and Kimberley Taylor and husband, Gregory of Clarksville, Arkansas; three grandchildren; two nephews Karl Knobelauch and family (California) and Kent Knobelauch and family (California).

Fulfilling his request, Mr. Knobelauch was cremated. A memorial service will be Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 1pm at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Topeka.
