Vernon L. Barnard

Vernon Loyd Barnard, 48, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009 due to lymphoma.
He was born April 7, 1961 in Lincoln, NE, the son of Donald E. and Fern E. (Myers) Barnard.
He was employed at Lake Shawnee Parks and Recreation in Topeka.
He married Kathleen M. Gotchall on March 29, 1980. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Mitch Barnard of Topeka, and 2nd Lt.Virgil Barnard and wife, Megan, of Ft. Benning, GA; a grandson, Taylor Barnard and granddaughter, Kylee Barnard; two sisters, Valori Barnard, and Vickie Root and husband, Reggie; his paternal grandmother, Maurine Barnard; all of Lincoln, NE. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers and maternal grandmother, father and brother.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SW Minnesota Ave. Topeka. Graveside services will be 3 p.m., Saturday at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, Lincoln, NE. Mr. Barnard will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 555 N. Woodlawn, Building 1, Suite 113, Wichita, KS 67208.
