Vernon L. Kasten, 91, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015. He was born February 1, 1924, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Otto and Agnes (Higgins) Kasten. Vernon was raised in Topeka and graduated from the Topeka Catholic High School. After high school, Vernon served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Spinazzole, Italy.
Vernon worked as an Inspector at Forbes Field Air National Guard for 21 years before retirement. He had a passion for antique cars and was a member of several Antique Car Clubs. He also enjoyed studying about house architecture, door closures and was an avid patron of the library.
Vernon married Mary Max Montgomery on May 10, 1948 at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka. She survives. He is also survived by his sisters, Nadine Carter and Loralee Theresa Logan; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marquita C Boyd.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 S.W. 6th Avenue, in Topeka. The family will greet friends and visitors for 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
