Veryl Edward Whisler, 84, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2012.
He was born September 20, 1927 in America City, KS the son of John and Mabel (Breed) Whisler.

He graduated from Havensville High School in 1945. Veryl served in the Navy from 1945 to 1949 and served in the Pacific. He moved to Topeka in 1949 and owned a Standard Oil Truck business. He joined the Topeka Police Department as a patrolman in 1954, retiring as Lieutenant on June 30, 1983.

Veryl married Jo Ann Boggs on November 18, 1950 in Topeka, they divorced in 1955. He married Judy Holly on September 18, 1959 in Seneca. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Jeffrey Whisler, Topeka; and daughter, Charmaine (Marc) Blaine, Palm Desert, CA.

He was master secretary of White Lakes Optimist in 1974, president in 1975, and Lieutenant Governor of Kansas (Zone 9) in 1976.
He served as Mission Township Trustee from 1985 to 1993. Veryl was a life member of VFW Post 1650 and past post commander. He was a past Seam Squirrel of the Military Order of the Cooties and a member of the American Legion Post 333,
Havensville, KS.

He received his 60 year pin from Orient Lodge 51 AF&AM in 2011 and was a member of the Topeka Arab Shrine and a charter member of the Legion of Honor Unit. He was a charter member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #3, the Kansas Peace Officers Association and the National Rifle Association.

Veryl's wish was to be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the America City Cemetery at a later date.
