Mrs. Victoria Jacqueline Harold Washington was born on September 2, 1947 to William Charles Sr. and Francis Beulah Hysten Harold. She was the youngest of five children. She was known by family and friends as "Mickey". She accepted Christ at a young age, being baptized at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. While an adult she would often attend services at True Vine Baptist Church worshiping with her brother and later became a member.
Victoria attended Highland Park Schools and following graduation joined Job Corp. She later attended Washburn University where she received her LPN and RN degrees. She received several nursing awards honoring her accomplishments including The Outstanding Achievement Award in Nursing from Washburn University.
After graduation she began her vocational career as a nurse at the old Santa Fe Hospital, later known as Memorial Hospital. She was charge nurse in the critical care unit for over thirty years. Following the closing of Memorial Hospital, Victoria continued her nursing management career at St. Francis Hospital as the Administrative Director of Nursing. While working at the Kansas Neurological Institute, (KNI), Victoria had a desire to further assist in the care of her niece and developed a strong relationship with the Topeka Association of Retarded Citizens (TARC), Social Rehabilitation Services (SRS) and other community activist to establish the family business, Family Living Inc., to aide in the care of the developmentally challenged.
Victoria was married to Perry F. Washington in August 1986. The couple resided in the Topeka area managing the family business until retirement in 2012. Both are recognized as pillars in the family and the community giving of their time and talents while loving one another.
Victoria is the mother of two children: her son, Donald (Doreen) Henderson, and her daughter, Martha Pruyser Carter. She also has a step-daughter, Cori Washington of Pittsburg, California.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories, her husband, her two children, two brothers: William (Betty) Harold Jr. and Raymond (Dana) Harold; one sister, Patricia (Robert) Haney; special nieces: Frances (Rey) Caraballo, Belton, Texas, Gene' (Henry) Henderson, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Katherine Cushinberry, Havelock, North Carolina, and Frederica Gentry, Topeka, Kansas; and a special nephew Michael Harold, Topeka, Kansas. She has seven biological grandchildren, and a host of other family members, relatives and friends.
She is proceeded in death by her parents; one sister, Lois Jean Gentry; God Mother, Geneva Hysten-Harris; and great-grandson Harlem Revely.
Victoria parted this life on Sunday, December 20, 2015. She was famous for her cooking and playing Bid Whiz and Sizzling 7's at the casinos, but her first love was her family. Victoria will be remembered and loved forever by many. Most of all she was loved by God, as she has labored and now is in heaven receiving her reward.
A visitation will be held on December 24, 2015 from 3-5PM at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church on December 26, 2015 at 10AM.
