Violet M. Acheson, 90, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Aldersgate Village.
She was born January 23, 1917 in Berryville, Arkansas, the daughter of Bud and Sarah Turner. She moved with her family to Topeka at an early age.
She graduated from Seaman High School and Clark's Business College in Topeka. She was retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Violet was a petite and gentle lady who loved nature and all of God's creatures. She traveled extensively throughout the US and particularly enjoyed the mountains and lakes of the west. Early in life, she pursued a hobby in ceramics and prized a collection of porcelain dolls which she assembled, dressed in early American attire and then fired herself. She donated her doll collection to Aldersgate Village for the enjoyment of the residents.
Violet was a 55 year member of West Side Baptist Church.
Her late husband, Dan Stroup, died in 1995. One of her fondest wishes came true in 1997 when she and Clint Acheson were married in the historic and beautiful Osborne Chapel at Baker University. Mr. Acheson survives in Topeka. Other survivors include a son, James Kaup, Maricopa, Arizona; a daughter, Janice Mead, Casa Grande, Arizona; a sister, Mildred White, Raytown, Missouri; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. An identical twin sister Viola Bratten, and a brother, Gordon Turner, both of Crescent City, California, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 37th & Wanamker. Violet will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
